Buddy Strom is the trainer that trained Ryan for both Blade Trinity and Wolverine. Strom has trained the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johansson, and Jessica Biel. For Blade Trinity, it is said he helped Ryan Reynold's gain 20lbs of muscle while losing 30% body fat. Ryan was down to 3% body fat for that role which is just amazing as wou can tell from the picture below.

The Workout
Functional fitness was the key, which combines traditional weight training with core and stability exercises. Ryan Reynolds trained one body part per day over a 6 day period.
Here's the break down:
Day 1 - chest
Day 2 - back
Day 3 - shoulders
Day 4 - legs
His workouts were not short to say the least as he spent anywhere from 2-3 hours in the gym and his reps were in the 8-12 range.
The All Important Diet
1. Ate 6 Small meals per day.
2. Didn't worry about restricting carbs (for the most part)
3. Did not eat carbs after 8 pm, but a protein snack if he was hungry.
5. Watched his daily calorie intake.
6. Used creatine as his main supplement

* Breakfast: 2 eggs a slice of avocado and 1 cup of oatmeal
* Snacks: a protein Bar
* Lunch: tuna wrap or chicken salad
* Snacks: a whey protein shake, protein bar and an apple
* Dinner: broiled fish or chicken, brown rice and vegetables
